A Brief Introduction to Employment Rights

A Brief Introduction to Employment Rights

Many workers are unaware of protective labor rights available to them, which can leave them at risk in the workplace. Refugees, in particular, often are more susceptible to having their rights violated by employers due to language barriers, lack of familiarity with local laws, or fear of retaliation. This workshop is designed to provide refugees and their advocates an overview of key employment rights, guidance on recognizing violations, and available resources when faced with unfair treatment. Topics will include the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage theft prevention, and relevant local employment ordinances.
