Centering survivors in addressing Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in Washington State
Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) affects thousands of women and girls globally and across Washington State and requires a coordinated, culturally responsive response that engages communities, service providers, and government systems. This session will highlight Washington's efforts to strengthen prevention, protection, and support for survivors and individuals at risk of FGM/C through legislative action, community outreach and engagement, provider education, and cross-sector collaboration. Designed for impacted communities, service providers, and government representatives, this session will provide foundational information about FGMC, and share how coordinated approaches can increase awareness, strengthen access to services, and foster trust and engagement across diverse communities.
