Uplifting Refugee and Immigrant Voices

Workshop participants will receive a packet of poems and other material that highlight the resilience, strength and deep humanity that issues from the stories and poetic and artistic expressions of refugees and immigrants. The workshop includes a brief overview of the dramatic changes in current U.S. refugee  policies along with poems and prompts that invite participants to explore their  own sense of home and their  reflections as to what might shape and deepen collective gestures of welcome, advocacy and community engagement on behalf of refugees and immigrants. Central to this workshop is emphasis on the power of personal narratives and stories as told in each person’s own voice from their own experiences.
